So, you’ve just landed at Ngurah Rai and the “Taxi?” chorus has already begun. While a private car to Ubud might set you back 400,000 IDR, there is a sleek, air-conditioned red bus waiting just outside the terminal that costs only IDR 4,400 (about $0.30 USD).

Comparison: 2026 Bali Airport Transfer Costs

Destination Private Airport Taxi “Hybrid Hack” Your Total Savings
Kuta IDR 150,000+ IDR 4,400 ~IDR 145,000
Ubud IDR 400,000+ IDR 8,800 ~IDR 390,000
Canggu IDR 250,000+ IDR 29,400* ~IDR 220,000
Nusa Dua IDR 250,000+ IDR 4,400 ~IDR 245,000
Sanur IDR 200,000+ IDR 8,800 ~IDR 190,000

Swipe the table sideways to compare all costs.

*Includes the TMD Bus + a short Gojek/Grab “last mile” ride

Note: Prices are estimated based on September 2026 rates. While the bus takes longer than a private car, the “traffic dodge” using dedicated lanes often makes the time difference smaller than you’d think during peak hours!

In 2026, the Trans Metro Dewata is the ultimate “traffic dodge” for savvy travelers. The service paused when management passed from the national Teman Bus program to Bali’s Provincial Government at the end of 2024, then relaunched in April 2025 with all six routes fully operational. Here is the up-to-date September 2026 information.

Main Routes Covered With Trans Metro Dewata Buses

Pro-tip: Track buses in real time with the official Android app. Wait times can exceed 20 minutes between departures, so check live locations before you head to the stop. Details in the app section below.

Trans Metro Dewata 2026 Route Map — All 6 corridors operational

  • Ubud: Reach the cultural heart via Corridor 4 (K4B).
  • Sanur (Ferries): Take Corridor 3 (K3B) for boats to Nusa Penida and Lembongan.
  • Nusa Dua: Take Corridor 6 (K6B) from the Kuta hub.
  • Seminyak/Canggu: Use the “Hybrid Hack” via Corridor 1 or 2 (see below).

No data yet? You’ll need mobile data for the TMD app, QRIS payments, and Grab the moment you land. Get your Indonesia eSIM on Airalo before your flight and use code WANDOPIA for 10% off. Activates before you board.

Official App & Where to Check Schedules

There is no single official Trans Metro Dewata website for travelers. Since Bali’s Provincial Government took over the network in 2025, the official Trans Metro Dewata app for Android is the most reliable source for live information. It’s free, and inside you can:

  • Track buses live on the map, so you’re not guessing at the shelter.
  • Check each corridor’s route and stops, including the airport lines.
  • Find the nearest shelter with the built-in “AR Shelter” view.

The app is published by PT Nusantara Global Inovasi, the company that runs the system’s technology under the provincial government. Schedules listed on third-party blogs (including this one!) can drift, so when in doubt, trust the app.

Step-by-Step How to Use Trans Metro Dewata

Step 1: Payment Methods (QRIS is Now Primary)

Cash is strictly not accepted.

  • Best for Foreigners: Use QRIS Cross-Border. If you have a banking app from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, or China (Alipay), just scan the code on the bus and pay in your home currency. Additional information about QRIS Cross-Border below.
  • Backup: Purchase an Indonesian E-Money card (BCA Flazz or Mandiri) at the airport Indomaret or Alfamart.

Step 2: The 2026 Route & Schedule Master Table

Note: Plan to be at your stop by 6:00 PM to be safe. Detailed corridors and transfer after the table.

Safety First: Navigating Bali’s narrow shortcuts on a scooter is an adventure—ensure you’re covered before you head out. SafetyWing offers two plans for solo travelers:

Pro-Tips: Luggage & Survival for the Solo Rider

The Trans Metro Dewata is a city-style commuter bus, not a long-haul coach. This means there are no under-bus storage compartments.

Trans Metro Dewata interior with blue and red seats, a central aisle and overhead handholds

City-bus seating and a shared aisle. Keep bags close to you, leaving seats, aisles and doors clear.

  • The “Medium Suitcase” Rule: If you can’t comfortably lift your bag onto your lap or keep it between your legs while seated, the bus might be a struggle. Large “check-in” size suitcases are discouraged during peak hours (07:00–09:00 and 16:00–18:00).
  • The “Solo Anchor” Move: As a solo traveler, try to snag the seats at the very back or the “sideways” seats near the middle. These areas usually have a bit more floor space to “anchor” your bag with your legs so it doesn’t slide when the driver hits the brakes.
  • Keep Your Tech Handy: Since you’ll be using your phone for QRIS payments and real-time tracking on the official Trans Metro Dewata app, keep your MacBook or tablet in a smaller “personal item” backpack on your front. Don’t leave valuables in a bag sitting in the aisle.
  • The “Last Mile” Reality: Remember that TMD stops are often on main roads. If your villa is down a narrow gang (alleyway) in Ubud or Canggu, don’t plan to walk 15 minutes with luggage in the Bali heat. Use the “Hybrid Hack” and grab a quick Gojek/Grab from the bus stop.
  • Air-Con is Your Best Friend: The buses are kept quite cold (a blessing in March!). If you’ve just come from the humid airport tarmac, have a light shirt or hoodie accessible in your carry-on.

Additional Information for QRIS Cross Border

This is the easiest way for tourists from neighboring countries to pay:

Supported Countries & Apps (2026 Update)

  • Singapore: Use NETS or SGQR compatible apps.
  • Malaysia: Use DuitNow compatible apps (like Touch ’n Go eWallet or Maybank MAE).
  • Thailand: Use PromptPay compatible apps (like Bangkok Bank or SCB).
  • Japan: Use apps compatible with JPQR (Netstars).
  • China: Primarily through Alipay and UnionPay (recently fully integrated for 2026).
  • South Korea: Rollout is currently in progress through Q1 2026; users should check for the “QRIS” logo in their local banking apps starting April 2026.

Simple Payment Steps

  1. Open Your App: Launch your home country’s payment app (e.g., Alipay, TNG eWallet, or NETS).
  2. Scan the Code: When boarding, look for the QRIS sticker near the driver or on the payment terminal.
  3. Confirm the Amount: The fare is a flat IDR 4,400. Your app will automatically show the amount converted into your local currency (SGD, MYR, THB, etc.) based on the daily exchange rate.
  4. Pay & Show: Confirm the payment and show the “Success” screen to the driver.

Is the Bus Right for You?

Another option: Kura-Kura Bus

Kura-Kura Bus is another option for travel between Kuta, Sanur and Ubud. It offers a scheduled shared shuttle with individual seat reservations and designated pickup and drop-off points. Check its official schedule and booking page for your route, stops and travel date before planning around it.

Is the Red Bus in Your 2026 Bali Plans?

Navigating Bali doesn’t have to mean being stuck in a private car or haggling with airport transport booths. The Trans Metro Dewata is a game-changer for solo travelers who want to move like a local without sacrificing air-conditioned comfort.

Since things in Bali can change fast even in 2026, I want to hear from you! Have you used the new Corridor 6 to Nusa Dua lately? Did your home banking app scan the QRIS code without a hitch?

Help fellow travelers!

The Trans Metro Dewata network is still evolving — routes, terminals, and schedules change frequently. If you’ve ridden the bus after March 2026 and noticed:

  • A new stop or terminal location
  • Schedule changes (earlier/later last departures)
  • Route modifications or new corridors
  • Payment method updates
  • Any confusion or “gotchas” that tripped you up

Drop me a message with your update. I’ll verify and add it to this guide so the Wandopia community stays ahead of the curve. Every tip helps another solo traveler save money and navigate Bali like a local.

Safe travels, and see you on the K2B!
