For 14 days and 13 hotel nights in Bali, a comfortable solo budget is about US$1,733, or Rp31.2 million, before international flights. This worked example includes private rooms, food and cafés, car transfers, one private-driver day, a modest activities allowance, entry costs, phone data, an insurance allowance, and a reserve.

You can spend less with cheaper rooms and fewer car trips. You can also spend considerably more without doing anything particularly extravagant. For a solo traveler, the room and the car are yours to pay for in full.

The example below follows Sanur → Ubud → Kintamani → Sanur. It is for someone who wants a comfortable room and the freedom to explore, without making hostel dorms or scooter rental the condition for an affordable trip.

All dollars here are US dollars. I use US$1 = Rp18,000 as a planning assumption, not today’s exchange rate. The rupiah figures drive the calculations; your bank or money changer will use its own rate. On menus, Rp50k means Rp50,000 and Rp1.25m means Rp1,250,000.

Hotel prices checked: 25 September 2026. The shortlist uses those dated quotes; the trip allowances are planning estimates for you to adjust.

Your Bali budget at a glance

Time in Bali Hotel nights Example trip Budget before international flights
5 days 4 One Sanur base US$583 / Rp10,500,000
7 days 6 One Sanur base US$789 / Rp14,200,000
14 days 13 Sanur, Ubud, Kintamani, Sanur US$1,733 / Rp31,200,000

These are three separate plans. A short stay still pays for arrival and departure transport and any applicable entry fees, so dividing the two-week total by fourteen does not give you a reliable five-day budget.

Bali budget infographic

The route behind the two-week total

Base Nights What this part of the trip gives you
Sanur 3 A slower start, local meals, and time by the sea
Ubud 4 Nature, culture, and room for a workshop or driver day
Kintamani 2 Two chances at a mountain sunrise, subject to weather
Sanur 4 A relaxed finish, with an optional Nusa Penida day trip before departure day
Total 13 14 calendar days in Bali

Sanur is my favourite Bali base. I like its calmer pace, the seaside path, and being able to choose between local food and more polished restaurants. Ubud gives me a different kind of trip, although central traffic can make short distances take longer than expected. In Kintamani, I would give a sunrise two mornings rather than attach all my hopes to one clear sky.

If you want an island outing, keep day 13, your final full day in Sanur, for the optional Nusa Penida day trip below. Stay in Sanur again that night and leave day 14 for departure. The boat and tour are an extra cost, outside the US$1,733 base budget.

Book rooms against your local Bali arrival and departure dates. Fourteen days in Bali may require more than fourteen days away from home once you add international travel. Check late-night arrivals too: a room you want to enter just after midnight may need booking from the previous night.

If these bases do not suit you, take the Bali travel-style quiz before choosing hotels. A route you enjoy matters more than reproducing this one exactly.

The complete 14-day cost breakdown

Category What the allowance covers Approx. US$ Rupiah
Accommodation 7 Sanur nights, 4 Ubud nights, 2 Kintamani nights 986 17,750,000
Food and drinks 14 days at Rp300,000, including bill additions 233 4,200,000
Ground transport Airport rides, base changes, one driver day, local car rides 244 4,400,000
Experiences and admission One paid activity plus smaller outings 67 1,200,000
Visa, Bali levy, and SIM Passport-dependent fees and a basic phone allowance 44 800,000
Travel insurance allowance Replace with your own policy quote 56 1,000,000
Flexible reserve Extra rides, meals, fees, or price changes 103 1,850,000
Total before international flights 14 days, 13 nights 1,733 31,200,000

Dollar amounts are rounded. The total includes the insurance allowance and reserve, even if you do not spend every rupiah. It excludes international flights, expenses getting to your home airport, transit accommodation, shopping, and the optional Nusa Penida trip discussed below.

Is US$3,000 enough for two weeks in Bali, including flights?

It can be, but price your return flight first. This Bali plan uses US$1,733.33 of a US$3,000 budget, leaving approximately US$1,267 for airfare and any other expenses outside the model.

Hypothetical return airfare Bali budget plus airfare Money remaining from US$3,000
US$900 About US$2,633 About US$367
US$1,200 About US$2,933 About US$67
US$1,600 About US$3,333 About US$333 over budget

These fares are arithmetic examples, not current flight offers. With a US$1,200 flight, the remaining US$67 is a narrow margin for home-airport transport or a transit hotel. If your US$3,000 is available after paying for flights, this plan leaves about US$1,267 for upgrades or additional spending in Bali.

Which airlines should US and European travelers compare?

Search for Denpasar, airport code DPS, using your own departure airport and dates. These airlines and hubs are useful starting points for comparing complete itineraries:

Airline Connection hub to investigate
Singapore Airlines Singapore, SIN
EVA Air Taipei Taoyuan, TPE
Cathay Pacific Hong Kong, HKG
Qatar Airways Doha, DOH
Emirates Dubai, DXB

Use these hubs as starting points, then check the available connections from your departure airport. European readers can compare the same hubs where they fit the route from home.

Compare the return fare with baggage included, total travel time, connection length, arrival time, and cancellation or change terms. Check whether all connecting flights are on one ticket. Separate tickets and overnight layovers can add costs that erase a lower headline fare. Check current airline notices before booking.

For a long journey, paying a little more for a manageable connection can be worthwhile. Put that choice into the flight budget before deciding what remains for hotels.

Use the Wandopia flight search at the end of this guide, with Bali already selected, to compare fares for your departure airport and dates. Results open on Aviasales.

Where the Bali budget goes

Hotels: the biggest adjustable cost in this example

Accommodation takes about 57% of the Bali budget, making it the clearest place to adjust your spending.

Base Nightly allowance Nights Subtotal
Sanur Rp1,250,000, about US$69 7 Rp8,750,000
Ubud Rp1,400,000, about US$78 4 Rp5,600,000
Kintamani Rp1,700,000, about US$94 2 Rp3,400,000
Total About US$76 13 Rp17,750,000

Sanur’s seven nights combine both stays. The Total row shows the average nightly allowance across all thirteen nights.

I have found comfortable private rooms around US$50–100 a night in Bali. September 2026 booking prices for properties in Sanur, Ubud, and Kintamani ranged below and above these allowances; rates for your dates may differ.

Hotel prices can rise during July–August and Christmas–New Year, from late December into early January, when properties may apply seasonal surcharges. For those dates, replace the September room examples with actual quotes before relying on the total, and check for minimum stays or compulsory festive dinners.

Set your search to one adult and one room, then compare the final price with taxes, service charges, breakfast, and cancellation terms. Check the map: an Ubud-labelled hotel outside the centre can increase your transport costs even if the room is cheaper. The Sanur boutique hotel guide can help you choose that base.

An extra US$20 per night adds US$260 over thirteen nights. Cutting US$20 saves the same amount, provided the alternative room actually suits you and does not add expensive rides.

These selection notes are based on property listings and research. The approximate nightly quotes below were saved in my 25 September 2026 research, for one adult, including listed taxes and charges. Room types, breakfast, discounts, and cancellation terms differed; compare the final quote for your dates. The allowances are about US$69 in Sanur, US$78 around Ubud, and US$94 in Kintamani.

Sanur

  • Kris Residence Sanur

Bumi Ayu, inland Sanur; about US$41, below the US$69 allowance. The listed kitchenette suits simple meals on your own; allow for the walk to the beach.
  • Akaya Bali

Danau Tamblingan, central Sanur; about US$91–97, above the allowance. An on-site café and nearby restaurants make solo meals convenient; beach access is across the road.
  • Klumpu Bali Resort

Jalan Kesari, Sanur; about US$137–144, roughly twice the allowance. A villa with a kitchen gives you private downtime and meal flexibility; the inland lane is away from the beachfront.
  • Anandaya Sanur

Mertasari, southern Sanur; about US$136–148, roughly twice the allowance. Apartment space and a kitchen suit a longer solo stay; this is south of the central Danau Tamblingan strip.

Ubud area

  • Rumah Kayu Resort

Lodtunduh, south of Ubud; about US$61–67, below the US$78 allowance. A private room with breakfast suits a slower solo stay; budget rides into central Ubud.
  • Manika Ubud Villa

Pejeng Kawan, east of Ubud; about US$147–160, around twice the allowance. A one-bedroom private-pool villa suits a solo splurge for privacy; plan transport for central restaurants.
  • Les Mandarines

Subak Sok Wayah, Ubud; about US$87, slightly above the allowance. An on-site restaurant and pool suit time spent at the property; confirm luggage transfer along the rice-field lanes.

Kintamani

  • Tira Vilagna Suites & Spa

Padang Mun, Kintamani; about US$94–104, around the US$94 allowance. A forest retreat with an on-site restaurant suits a quiet solo break; plan transport for lake outings.
  • Tegal Sari Cabin Kintamani

Batur Selatan, near Pura Ulun Danu Batur; about US$49–54, below the allowance. A view-facing suite with breakfast suits an easy morning on your own; the lake requires a separate journey.
  • Payang Cabin Kintamani

Bukit Payang, Batur Selatan; about US$42–66, below the allowance. A mountain-view room and room service suit a simple solo base; plan rides for outings and compare breakfast inclusions.

Food: allow room for local meals and cafés

The model sets aside Rp300,000, about US$17, per day for food and drinks. Across fourteen days, that is Rp4,200,000, or about US$233. This is the amount paid on the final bill, including tax or service where applicable.

I mostly eat local food in Bali. Babi guling is one of the things I look for, and local meals give me more flexibility than eating every meal at a café aimed at visitors. The larger allowance lets you mix both without needing every lunch to be the cheapest option.

Look for ++, which means tax and service charges are added to the displayed price. Paying by cash, card, or QRIS does not remove those bill additions. If the menu is unclear, ask, “Is this the final price, including tax and service?” before ordering. A price marked net means those charges are already included. Tax, service, and net-price explanation from The Udaya.

What US$10 can buy in Bali

At this article’s planning rate, US$10 buys Rp180,000.

From my experience at local sit-down warungs, including Warung Kecil in Sanur, around Rp50,000 can cover a meal, a glass of hot tea, and any bill additions, depending on what you order. Think of a glass of tea alongside a local meal, rather than a large café mug and a Western brunch.

Local-meal illustration Rupiah Approx. US$
Three meals at Rp50,000 each 150,000 8.33
Money left from US$10 30,000 1.67

That is an illustration of what local food can offer. Check the current menu and your order; it is not a fixed-price three-meal package. The US$10 covers food, not a hotel, transport, or activities. I keep the more flexible Rp300,000 daily allowance in the main trip budget.

For drinking water, choose sealed bottled water or water reliably treated for drinking. Do not drink untreated tap water or assume restaurant ice is safe. Use ice only when you are confident it was made with safe water and handled hygienically. CDC food and water guidance.

Transport: budget for the whole car

This plan uses cars. I often ride a motorcycle myself, but scooter rental should be an informed choice, rather than an assumption hidden inside a low daily budget.

Journey Rupiah allowance Approx. US$
Two airport rides at Rp350,000 each 700,000 39
Sanur to Ubud 350,000 19
Ubud to Kintamani 500,000 28
Kintamani to Sanur 650,000 36
One full private-driver day 800,000 44
Local car rides throughout the trip 1,400,000 78
Total 4,400,000 244

These are planning allowances, not reserved fares. Get quotes for the exact pickup address, destination, time, and date. Compare an app quote with a booked transfer or direct driver quote for longer journeys. Ask whether fuel, parking, tolls, waiting time, and the driver’s meals are included, and which admission fees you pay separately.

When I want a car, I prefer Bluebird’s fixed-price option. Bluebird’s terms explain that tolls, parking, and an app fee may be additional. Grab and Gojek are also useful for checking available rides and their payment options.

Download MyBluebird for iPhone on the App Store or Android on Google Play. Set your exact pickup and destination before comparing the fare.

Compare longer transfers with the Bali transport search. For your first ride, the airport transfer guide explains pickup choices. If you are considering a bus, check the route and conditions in the airport bus guide.

Combining nearby stops on one driver day can help. Adding several extra driver days needs an explicit budget increase or a reduction elsewhere.

If you prefer to arrange your first airport pickup before flying, compare a prebooked Bali transfer with Welcome Pickups. Check the quote for your hotel, luggage, and arrival time against the airport allowance above, and read the pickup and cancellation details before booking.

For moves between bases or a boat trip, compare the routes available through the transport search below. If your exact pickup or destination is not listed, request a direct driver quote; a route-search result does not cover every local ride in Bali.

Experiences: choose the day you actually want

The model includes Rp1,200,000, about US$67, for paid experiences and admission. That is a modest allowance. It cannot cover every tour, workshop, and spa treatment you might want.

The Sanur beach path has no general entrance ticket, although parking, bike hire, food, and water activities can cost extra. A sunrise walk gives you a low-spend day without needing a tour booking.

In Kintamani, the tourism registry entry for Sukawana Sunrise Spot lists Rp15,000–40,000 admission but marks the record as unverified by the tourism office. Confirm access and admission locally. The early car ride may cost much more than the ticket, so include it in your transport quote.

For a paid example, a three-hour silver-making class in Taro, north of central Ubud, was listed from around Rp600,000 in September 2026. I have not taken this class. Check the final one-adult price, materials, and pickup before relying on that amount. If it holds, the class uses half the activities allowance.

Alternatively, a three-hour riverside spa treatment at Sanctoo near Bali Zoo was listed from US$68 in September 2026. That is approximately Rp1,224,000, using the entire activities allowance before transport. Choose it instead of the class, or increase the budget. Its location south of central Ubud also makes it a different outing.

Optional final Sanur day: Nusa Penida with return fast boat

For a change of scenery during your final Sanur stay, you could spend day 13 on Nusa Penida, then return to your Sanur hotel for the night. Keep departure day free of boat connections: delays or cancellations could affect your airport transfer.

The Viator trip linked in the route table offers an All-Inclusive option that includes the return fast-boat fare between Sanur and Nusa Penida, Bali hotel pickup and drop-off, private island transport, and lunch. Its published duration is approximately 10–12 hours. Confirm your Sanur hotel’s pickup arrangements and the selected itinerary before booking.

Select one adult and the All-Inclusive option when checking the price. The cheaper Meet-in-Penida option starts on the island and excludes fast-boat tickets and Bali hotel transfers. Snorkeling is included only when you choose a snorkeling option. These inclusions were checked on September 30, 2026; use the final price for your date and selected option.

Treat the full boat-inclusive quote as an extra cost above US$1,733, unless you explicitly replace other planned spending. Do not add a separate boat fare when the selected package already includes it. I have snorkeled at Nusa Penida and saw a manta, but a sighting on your trip is never guaranteed.

Visa, tourist levy, and phone data

The Rp800,000, about US$44, line combines three separate items:

Item Planning amount What to check
B1 Visa on Arrival Rp500,000 Eligibility for your passport and purpose of travel
Bali foreign tourist levy Rp150,000 Whether an exemption applies
Basic local SIM allowance Rp150,000 Available product, activation, and actual seller price

If you qualify for B1 Visa on Arrival, applying through the official Indonesian e-visa portal before departure avoids the visa-purchase step after landing. The government B1 fee is Rp500,000, about US$28 at this planning rate. Follow the current application requirements and obtain approval before relying on it. Official Immigration visa information.

The Love Bali FAQ lists the Rp150,000 levy and exemptions. The All Indonesia arrival declaration is separate from the visa and free: use the official arrival portal. Government declaration FAQ.

Telkomsel’s tourist-card FAQ lists Rp150,000, which supports this article’s local SIM allowance. Compare the package and price at the counter before buying.

If you prefer arranging data before departure, compare Airalo’s Indonesia eSIM plans for an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone. Check the data allowance, validity, and checkout total, then replace the Rp150,000 phone allowance with that price. A data-only plan does not provide an Indonesian number for receiving verification texts.

Use the Bali visa guide and SIM and internet guide for the preparation details. Subtract fees that do not apply to you, and replace the phone allowance if your chosen plan costs more.

Paying in Bali: keep fees in your budget

I use QRIS for many small purchases in Bali, but arrive with a working card and some rupiah cash. QRIS needs a compatible payment app; a merchant’s QR sign alone does not tell you whether your own app will work. If you add GoPay, test registration, funding, and a small payment before loading a larger balance. Check GoPay’s current top-up instructions for the method and fee.

At a card terminal or ATM, choose IDR to decline the provider’s currency conversion. Your bank’s exchange rate, foreign-transaction charges, and ATM fees still matter. Visa explains the conversion choice.

Apple Pay uses compatible contactless terminals; carry the physical card too. Check the final restaurant bill for tax and service, and include any voluntary tips in your daily allowance. Wallet funding moves money between payment methods; it is not an extra meal expense. Keep payment fees within the reserve.

Insurance, small extras, and your reserve

The Rp1,000,000, about US$56, insurance allowance is a placeholder, rather than a policy quote. Replace it with suitable cover for your age, health, dates, and planned activities. Use the Bali travel insurance guide to compare what matters.

The Rp1,850,000, about US$103, reserve gives you room for price changes, payment fees, extra rides, or a more expensive meal. It is included in the total; add only spending that exceeds the remaining reserve or the category allowance it replaces.

One small preparation cost for US visitors is a plug adapter. Indonesia generally uses Type C/F plugs and 230V electricity. Check that your charger accepts 100–240V. An adapter changes the plug shape; it does not convert voltage for a 120V-only appliance. Electrical Safety First’s Indonesia guidance.

Is US$100 a day enough in Bali?

It is below this particular comfort budget. The full example averages approximately US$124 per Bali calendar day, including accommodation, the listed fees, insurance allowance, and reserve.

One way to approach US$100 a day is to reduce the thirteen-night room budget to an average US$50 per night. Keeping every other rupiah allowance unchanged would bring the total to Rp25,150,000, about US$1,397, or roughly US$100 per day.

Use an actual hotel quote and check whether its location adds transport costs. Flights remain separate in both versions.

Is US$1,000 enough for five days or a week?

For the Bali portion, yes under these shorter single-base examples. Both keep the Sanur room allowance at Rp1,250,000 per night and food at Rp300,000 per day.

Category 5 days / 4 nights 7 days / 6 nights
Rooms Rp5,000,000 Rp7,500,000
Food and drinks Rp1,500,000 Rp2,100,000
Airport and local transport Rp1,400,000 Rp1,700,000
Activities Rp500,000 Rp500,000
Visa, levy, and SIM assumptions Rp800,000 Rp800,000
Insurance allowance Rp500,000 Rp600,000
Reserve Rp800,000 Rp1,000,000
Total before international flights Rp10,500,000 / US$583 Rp14,200,000 / US$789

A week with several base changes and extra private-driver days is a different budget. If US$1,000 also needs to cover a long-haul return flight, find the ticket price first.

Build a budget for your dates

Start with the return flight, then quote the rooms and the longer transfers. Replace those three inputs in the tables, choose the paid outings you want, and keep a reserve you can afford.

Keep the Bali total and airfare visible as separate numbers. That gives you a clearer decision than a daily average that quietly leaves out the expensive parts.
